About Blush Majora
How We Met
Leah Kim and Eun Moon met at Santa Monica College in the Fall of 2024 when both were enrolled as music students. In the Spring of 2025 they teamed up with Bae and Seo-ji Kang - two sisters from Alhambra whom they met at a local coffeehouse and Blush Majora was born.
Rehearsals & Recording Demos
Through the spring and summer of 2025 we rehearsed and recorded demos at Leah and Eun's apartment in Santa Monica. One night after watching a movie on Tubi, they sent a demo to the film's director who was also a music producer.
Recording Our First Album
The film director signed Blush Majora to his record label and immediately took them into the studio to record their first album which was released on Easter Sunday of 2026 - almost exactly a year after the group was formed.
The Story of Blush Majora
It all began with two music majors meeting up after class...
Leah Kim met Eun Moon in the fall of 2024 while both were music students at Santa Monica College. Eun liked the songs Leah was writing and began singing on the demos Leah was recording in her 2 bedroom apartment on nearby 17th Street. When Leah’s roommate moved out in November, Eun moved in as a roommate since it was a lot closer to campus than where she was living in K-town near downtown Los Angeles. This allowed them to work on recording demos full-time whenever they weren’t attending classes. On Leah’s birthday, March 21, Leah and Eun took the Big Blue Santa Monica Bus along Pico Boulevard to the Unurban Coffeehouse to hear a friend of theirs from music theory class play. Also playing that Friday night at the coffeehouse was a duo named “Kang the Gong” – two sisters of Korean heritage who sag hit K-pop songs while accompanying themselves on stage with acoustic guitar, bass and a TR-808 drum machine. It was an auspicious night when Leah and Eun met Bae and Seo-ji, the two Kang sisters, and invited them over to their apartment to hear the demos Leah and Eun had been working on. They ended up adding Bae and Seo-ji’s voices to some of the demos they already had and even recorded some new versions with all four of them singing together. Their voices blended so perfectly that they kept recording until they released the sun had come up. The four girls were exhausted and exhilarated and when Seo-ji said: “Hey, why don’t we form a K-pop group?” the other three immediately replied with a unison: “Yes!” Bae was a sophomore at UCLA and her younger sister, Seo-ji was in her senior year of high school. They both still lived with their parents in Alhambra. For the next two months, Bae and Seo-ji n would sleep over on the weekends at Leah and Eun’s apartment to rehearse and record more of Leah’s songs. In August of 2025, Seo-ji graduated from high school and Bae decided to take a year off from college to work full time on the band. In July, taking a break from recording, the four girls watched a movie that was streaming on Tubi together called “Gam Cam Grrl.” They picked that movie because it had a cute Asian actor in the lead role. Inspired by the scene in the movie where the Russian girl character broadcasts her private parts on the JumboTron in Times Square on New Year’s Eve, Leah said: “Blush Majora.” Then Bae chimed in: “That’s what we should call our band!” Eun and Seo-ji whole-heartedly agreed, and thus the band Blush Majora was born.
While the credits were rolling at the end of the Gam Cam Grrl movie, Bae googled the movie’s director, Michael Paul Girard, and found out he was also a musician and music producer. Leah had been sending out demos for the past year to anyone she could and had gotten zero responses, and her parents were pressuring her to change her college major from music to dental hygiene. She sent the most recent demos with all four girls singing on it to the film director like the hundreds of demos she had sent out before and then forgot about it.
A few days later during the final week of August just as fall semester at Santa Monica College was about to begin and Leah was just on the verge of starting classes that would lead her onto a career path toward dental hygienist, she got a call on her cell phone from an ‘unknown caller.’ She usually let those calls go to voice mail since they were mostly spam, she answered the call and said: “Hello, whatever you’re selling I’m not interested.” The man’s voice on the other end immediately interjected: “I’m not selling, I’m buying! I’m interested in producing Discordian Knot.” “Who is this?” Leah asked curiously. “This is Michael Paul Girard and I just listened to your demo and I want to sign your band to my record label.” “Oh my God!” Leah exclaimed, almost dropping her phone, “We don’t call ourselves Discordian Knot anymore, we renamed the group Blush Majora. We came up with the new name while watching one of your movies! Gam Cam Grrl.”
And thus the band was signed and Mr. Girard took them into the studio for the next six months where Leah, Eun, Bae and Seo-ji recorded their first album which was finished almost exactly one year after the four girls first met on Leah’s birthday at a quaint coffeehouse on Pico Boulevard in Santa Monica.
“It was love at first blush,” producer Michael Paul Girard is now fond of saying about the first time he heard the music from the band now known as Blush Majora.
Leah, Eun, Bae and Seo-ji are currently in the studio recording their 2nd album scheduled to be released later in 2026 before the four girls embark on their maiden world tour in 2027.
“We’re all living the dream right now,” says Leah Kim. “We’re just trying to lay low right now so we can focus on the music. All the media interviews and photo shoots and videos, it all distracts from what all this is really all about. It all begins and ends with the music. Without the music, all the rest of it is just a bunch of fluff.”
